Sean Mills | Intra/Extra

Studio Spaces - Underwater Highrise - Sean Mills
Friday, September 15, 2017 - 7:00pm - 10:00pm

Intra/Extra exhibits works by LA based artist Annelie McKenzie alongside Vancouver artist Sean Mills, to display two distinct approaches to the painterly frame as both concept and structure.

We used to dial-up to go Online. The electronic tones would ping and chime, like the knocking at a door. Request received, a slight unlocking, then we enter. We no longer knock at the threshold of the internet. We slip, with ease, inside and outside a digital realm where the divide between the internal and external is veiled. In painting, the frame has often marked the limitations of internal and external space: where the image ends and the world begins. How might the internet, with it’s messy and multi-directional structures of space, be spilling over into IRL painterly treatment of the frame?
