    We're incredibly proud to announce that Dr. Ron Burnett, President + Vice-Chancellor, has been appointed to the Order of British Columbia. 

    The Order of British Columbia was established by statute on April 21, 1989, to recognize those persons who have served with the greatest distinction and excelled in any field of endeavour benefiting the people of the Province or elsewhere.  

    Dr. Burnett is made a Member of the Order of British Columbia in recognition of his distinguished academic career in media, arts and communications.

    Alumna Janice Kerbel ('94) has been nominated for the 2015 Turner Prize for her nine part operatic performance work, DOUG, originally commissioned by the Common Guild.

    The Turner Prize is awarded to a British artist under 50 for an outstanding exhibition or other presentation of their work in the preceding year. The 2015 Turner Prize exhibition preview will take place September 30, 2015 at Tramway, Glasgow with a final Award Ceremony held on December 7, 2015.

    Created in 2002 by the Sobey Art Foundation, the Sobey Art Award is Canada’s preeminent award for contemporary Canadian art. The annual $50,000 prize is given to an artist under 40 who has exhibited in a public or commercial art gallery within 18 months of being nominated.

    Camrose Ducote, recently retired Sculpture Studio Technician, will be having a solo exhibition of her new mixed-media works on panel at the Elissa Cristall Gallery from May 21 to June 13, 2015.

    Camrose Ducote grew up in Colorado and the light and space of Colorado continue to influence her work. She works in layers, creating then obscuring, revealing then hiding. Using thin layers of tinted acrylic medium she builds up the surface. “Sanding, squeegeeing, scraping is my idea of drawing. Creating ‘gel skins’, dripping, spraying, spreading medium with the palette knife is my way of painting.”
