PHOT 200: Photo Immersion: Analogue

This second year photography course complements PHOT 220 and enables participants to build their artistic identities through the development of lens based inquiry and photo-based works. This course will develop the visual, technical, and critical skills necessary to use black and white photographic materials, equipment, and processes effectively in the production of photographic art and extend the students' explorations, within the medium. Technical skills will include exposure and processing analogue b/w film using an SLR and medium format cameras, an in depth focus on darkroom printing including resin and fibre-based tray processing. Through assignments, lectures, seminars, workshops, and critiques, students will also be introduced to the critical, historical and theoretical language necessary to discuss and formulate ideas within photography. Assignments and critical feedback will emphasize the development of research and individual areas of interest.
