Opportunity Description + Organization Information:

This is an amazing, international opportunity with for our non-profit organization, The Esperanza Project, located in the beautiful, coastal town of Cabrera, Dominican Republic, where you will be working as a summer camp counselor.

We are entering our 9th year of our camp program, a completely free of charge day camp for local children aged 3 to 15 to take part in activities such as sports, art, music, dance, drama, and reading, throughout the summer months. As the program is completely free of charge for all children, we recruit a group of young, energetic volunteers to lead the activities at the camp, which is where you come in. Volunteers will be responsible for leading the 5 different activity centers throughout the camp for groups of roughly 20 children at a time. Each centre will have 2 to 3 international volunteers and 1 local volunteer who will work together to plan and implement the activities.

The summer camp program runs for 6 weeks from June 16th to July 28th, 2018, every Monday to Friday from 8:30am to 12:00pm, leaving afternoons free for volunteers to explore the area. There are several beautiful beaches in the area, as well as some of the world’s most stunning natural lakes and waterfalls. Within the town there are several restaurants, parks, internet cafes, and a beautiful waterfront boardwalk where volunteers can relax and enjoy their afternoons off.

While here in the Dominican Republic, The Esperanza Project will set up a safe, comfortable accommodation close to the camp where you will have a private room in a home with a local family. This will be included in the volunteer program fees which include accomodation, all meals, water, transportation and all program supplies. While living with a local family volunteers will have the chance to learn even more about the local culture, practice Spanish, and become a true part of the community.

This opportunity offers the perfect combination of working with children while discovering a new culture on this beautiful caribbean island! This position will also provide an excellent addition to your resume / CV for future employment and careers.

Volunteers have the option of applying for the full 6 week program from June 16th to July 28th or one of the 3 week sessions (June 16th to July 7th / July 7th to July 28th).
