Art Commission Opportunity: Artistic Retaining Wall Modification

Saturday, June 1, 2019 (All day)

Chilliwack LSC Precast invites artists and artist teams to submit a proposal for art on the concrete retaining wall on the southern edge of their property.

This private project initiative is for the permanent surface modification of the 100 m. long wall that borders a city of Chilliwack community trail. At its western entrance (8285A Lickman Road), the 1.8 km trail is commonly known as the Heppner Ditch trail.

LSC Precast invites artist to submit a design and execute the art project this summer. It welcomes art that expresses, in a celebratory way, themes related to (but not exclusively) flora and fauna of the area, history, recreation and community life around Chilliwack Mountain.

The permanent retaining wall modification could be a mural, mosaic or various relief treatment of the concrete surface. The resulting artwork would have to be safe for the public, vandalism resistant and long lasting.

LSC Precast offers $5000 for this project. It will be completed by September 1st, 2019. This budget includes labour and materials. LSC will offer the artist of artist team access to its building and shop and use of internet during hours of operations.

The chosen artist should be comfortable working close to an industrial site and enjoy communicating with the public during the production of the art project. All artists or artist teams available to work directly on the site this summer are eligible.
