  • A440Hz Exhibition Opening, September 15 2007

    Celia King, sessional faculty member, is co curator of A440Hz Electromagnetic Explorations, a collaboration engaging media and visual artists, musicians and performers. This new artistic practice investigating theoretical physics is founded on the A440Hz artists' book, created for the project. New Forms Festival '07 invited A440Hz for the Arts Residency. The Visual Arts Exhibition is open to October 20 at A440Hz Gallery, with Music & Performance Installation Saturday Sept 29.

    Wessel & Lieberman Booksellers hosts an exhibition of the work Briony Morrow-Cribbs (05). The show highlights a series of etchings Briony has contributed to a newly published, fine-press edition of ISKANDARIYA, a long poem by Brigit Pegeen Kelly. The eleven intaglio prints are the result of a collaboration between Briony and the publisher, Rollin Milroy of Heavenly Monkey Press, and provide the illustrations for the limited-edition, letterpress printed book.

  • Centigrade

    Centigrade, a short film edited by Associate Professor Jonathan Tyrrell, premiered at the Montréal Film Festival in the World Competition, and the Palm Springs International Festival of Short Films.

    The film is also part of the Vancouver International Film Festival and will be screened Sunday, October 7 at 9pm and Monday, October 8 at 4:30pm.

    Jonathan Middleton (98) is a Vancouver-based artist, curator and sessional faculty member at ECI.  He is a founding member of the Projectile Publishing Society, through which he publishes the Fillip Review and sits as a member of its editorial board. Middleton served as Director/Curator of the Western Front Exhibitions Programme from 1999-2005.

    Lindsey Pollard (94) received an Emmy from the Academy of Television Arts and Sciences at the 59th Annual Primetime Emmy Awards, September 8, 2007. Pollard was nominated in the category Outstanding Animated Program for her work on Where's Lazlo? (Camp Lazlo) on the Cartoon Network.

  • phantoms - P. Roch Smith

    P. Roch Smith's (97) practice engages with the construction of male identity with GI Joe figuring prominently for the past several years. In phantoms, Smith presents a collection of used 1970's era GI Joe's cast in plaster. Covered with a grid of 250 white figures, the gallery space resembles the interior of a mausoleum. Scratches and missing limbs on the figures evoke vigorous childhood play, and serve as an index to activities long since past. At the Access Artist Run Centre, September 8 - October 13, 2007.

    Curated by Mark Soo (99), The Presentation House Gallery presents Been Up So Long it Looks Like Down to Me, a group exhibition featuring fourteen internationally recognized artists who examine the concept of inversion with works of art that are literally and figuratively upside-down, turned over, or skewed off-axis.     Katherine Soucie, a third year General Fine Arts student, is the owner/designer of clothing line, Sans Soucie. Her experimentation over the last three years with non traditional materials and eco-friendly textile processes has resulted in an extensive body of work for which she has received a number of design awards such as the 2006 BC Creative Achievement Award, and the Circle Craft Excellence in Craft Award in both 2005/06. Shared Vision magazine features some of Soucie's latest work on the September cover.
