Translink and Emily Carr University of Art + Design

In 2010, “Between Spaces” livened up Burrard Station with visual works on the walls alongside the escalators and in the courtyard surrounding the ticket vending machines.  The works were displayed for up to two years; there was a tentative plan to hold a showcase of the works.

"Art in Transit" made it's debut in 2011. Emily Carr's Faculty of Culture + Community and TransLink present Art On Transit, a rolling showcase of student artwork featuring 38 unique works by students displayed on reserve advertising panels on buses and Sky Trains around the lower mainland. The project provides TransLink customers with visual interest during their travels and an opportunity for our emerging artists to display their work to a wide audience.

The selection panel included judges from both Emily Carr and TransLink, who based their choices on artistic excellence and suitability for the transit environment. Students received an honorarium from TransLink and will have their work displayed for a one-year period.

PNE and Emily Carr University of Art + Design

Emily Carr partners with the PNE Container Art Show. This unique, multi-disciplinary show was housed in 12- to 20-foot shipping containers, which was set up around the PNE grounds. The jury selected work that reflected the diversity of Vancouver artists. The 17 day show was open-themed and was up during the PNE Fair.

Emily Carr University held a special competition for two of the containers, which were reserved for our students. This competition was judged by an internal jury comprised of faculty members. Students in 3rd and 4th year and the MAA program were eligible to submit an entry. The selected artists were paid a $500 installation fee as well as a $1000 artist fee.
