Susan Stewart
Bio
Susan Stewart is a photographer, social practice artist and educator. Many of her projects are collaborative and community based and in recent years, she has addressed relational and political aspects within social/ecological sustainability such as documenting the Arctic to address human culpability in catastrophic ice loss, a theme also explored in the immersive video installation, Change Without Notice (2009). Current work involves image and video explorations of Buddhist pilgrimage sites in Asia and North America, focusing on the human seeking of the sacred in a time of radical disconnection.
A lifelong social practice project is an ongoing exploration of alternative urban ecologies, co-operative housing, urban farming, and resilience through community-building.
Stewart was a member of the queer art collective, Kiss & Tell, whose award-winning and provocative productions were exhibited, published and performed locally and internationally for over a decade.
Susan was also the Founding Dean of the Faculty of Culture + Community, where she led research and developed new educational paradigms in social practice and community engagement.
