My background is in studio art (MFA Sculpture, Michigan State University) and art history (PhD, Univ. of British Columbia), with a specialization in Chinese art history of the late imperial to contemporary period. Over the years, I have created a wide range of works in the field of visual arts, including mixed media sculptural installations, documentary films, large scale arts festivals, and community arts outreach. I have also curated contemporary art exhibits in the US, Europe, and China, and published essays on Chinese art and culture. My current work deals with the growing influence of Chinese visual culture in the global marketplace, including experimental art and design movements, trends in popular culture, and the remaking of traditional art practices for domestic and global audiences.
