Rob Stone
Bio
Rob's interests are in the complex forms of urbanity that arise at intersections of visual art, architectural and aural space, cinema and critical theories and fictions. http://saic.academia.edu/RobStone
His doctorate explored the mutual emergence of modernism and suburban sensibilities. After that, Rob helped build the Department of Visual Cultures at Goldsmiths College, establishing the Centre for Research Architecture and the MA in Aural and Visual Cultures there. He has since worked in Visual Art departments at Middlesex University, The School of the Art Institute, Chicago and UBC.
At Emily Carr, he teaches courses on art writing, contemporary and twentieth-century art, architecture and diaspora, the poetics of urban gesture (Choreographesis) and sound, space and attention (Vocalese).
His book Auditions: Architecture and Aurality was published by MIT Press in 2015. He is currently working on another one: Choreographesis.
