CEDR 121 SU01: Drawing Into Painting

This course provides an introduction to the fundamentals of drawing and painting and helps you transition from black-and-white to colour in your creative practice. You will investigate line, form, value, colour and pictoral composition by using a variety of drawing materials and water-based paints. You will begin with drawing and move into painting using the still life, the model and the imagination.

Please bring the following supplies to class:
Essential Items

* Artist quality acrylic paints - 1 set:  Make sure the set
includes warm primary colours (suggestions: azo red middle,
primary or hansa deep yellow, ultramarine blue), and cool primary
colours(suggestions: alizarin, quinacridone or crimson red, hansa
light or lemon yellow, phthalo blue or cyan) and titanium white
(suggested: Golden, Kroma, or Opus brand)
* Selection of various drawing materials (markers, pens, pencil
crayons, pencils, etc.)
* Soft Chalk Pastels, 1 coloured set of 12	
* Various Brushes suitable for acrylic painting (suggested: Opus
Legato Set/5)
* Palette Knives (suggested: metal + trowel shape)
* Paper - Bristol Pad Canson XL Recycled Bristol 11x14" 25 sheets
or similar
* Paper - Newsprint, 1 pad
* 2-3 Containers for water
* 1 Sketchbook 8.5x11 size
* 1 Eraser
* 1 Flat Palette or palette pad (plastic lids from home also
* 1 Masking tape
* 1-3 Glue Sticks
* Various selection of magazines, coloured paper, coloured tissue
paper for collage
* 1 Pocket Colour Wheel	1
