CEFA 100 SU01: 2D Composition + Form

This foundational course introduces you to the relationship of concept and composition in 2D art practices. You will develop skills in composition by investigating how line, shape, colour, texture and surface treatment enhance and influence form. Experimentation with a variety of media allows you to explore aesthetics and meaning by applying the elements and principles of composition. You will learn to reference historical and contemporary theories and image sources as inspirations for art making.

Please bring the following supplies to class:
Essential Items

* Sketch book, 8.5 x11 size (or one that you have already
* 11x14 (or larger) Mixed Media paper pad (such as Canson XL or
Strathmore 300 series) approx 40-60 sheets/pad
* 3 or more Drawing Pencils  (variety of weights from  HB-8B )
* 1 Eraser
* 1 Pencil Sharpener
* 1 Graphite Stick (suggested: 6B) AND/OR Compressed Charcoal
* 1-2 Conte Crayons (suggested: Black, Sanguine)
* 1 India Ink 60mL or watercolour
* 1 Pen holder and assorted nibs AND/OR 1-2 black fineliner pens
(such as Micron size 03-05)
* 1 pkg Colour drawing tools: choose colour pastel sticks,
gouache set, coloured pencils, or other colour drawing tools of
your choice
* 1 Glue stick
* 1 Scissors AND/OR paper knife (use what you have)
* 1 Ruler or straightedge (approx 12" long)
* 2-3 Containers for water (use what you have)
* Scrap paper/magazine/printed matter/coloured papers for collage

already have or are interested in trying out
