CEFA 101 SU01: 3D Materials + Media

In this course, you will explore the relationship between ideas, materials, media and context, and how these are used to create 3D objects. Both traditional and unconventional materials and processes will be employed in exercises and projects. Topics include: space, mass, volume, plane and texture, as well as how these elements can be manipulated, through your choice of materials.

Please bring the following supplies to class:
Essential Items

* Paper (printer or other inexpensive and or sketchbook), approx.
40 - 50 sheets
* Various Cardboard (found or home-sourced)
* A newspaper or a few sheets of newsprint paper (could be from
* Various selection of drawing materials (pens, pencil crayons,
pencils etc.)
* 2-3 Black felt markers + coloured markers
* 1 X-acto Knife or utility knife
* 1 White glue
* 1 roll String (such as butcher's cord or other home-sourced)
* 1 roll Wire, any kind (home sourced)
* 1 bar of (inexpensive) soap
* 1 roll of Masking tape

* Various felt sheets or fabric (to be discussed in class)
* 2-3 Sewing needles
* 1 Sewing thread
* 1 Ruler 12" or larger
* 1 Scissors
* 1 needle nose pliers
* Basic carving tools if you have them 
* modeling clay or two-part rubber mold making kit (to be
discussed in class)
* small bag of Plaster of Paris dry mix (to be discussed in

***Print Cards and/or Printing Costs: students are responsible
for printing costs. Print Cards are available in the Library or
in machines located next to the main elevators. Note that Print
Card machines are cash only.
