CEID 120 SU01: Basics of Industrial Design

This course introduces you to the fundamentals of industrial design. In it, you will gain an awareness of the design process with an emphasis on design criteria. This will be followed by formulation of the design brief, development of creative concepts, user testing and quick model making. You will work on a design project through to completion of a full-scale model and a short design presentation.

Please bring the following supplies to class:
Essential Items, Required for First Class

* Various selection of drawing materials (pencil required,
optional pens, markers etc.) - start with what you already own,
options will be discussed in class
* 1 White Eraser
* 30-50 sheetsLetter-sized (8.5" x11") white computer printer/
bond paper or sketchbook	
* 1 Paper Folder (8.5"x11" or 9"x12") to keep sketches and 2D

Estimated cost: $16.00

Optional / Potential Items (will be discussed first class)
* 1 Large cutter with breakable blade
* 1 Small X-acto style cutter
* 1 Tracing paper (pad or roll)
* 1 X-acto Knife
* 1 White glue
* Plan to purchase other materials such as cardboard, foamboard,
fabric depending on project developed during class

***Print Cards and/or Printing Costs: students are responsible
for printing costs. Print Cards are available in the Library or
in machines located next to the main elevators. Note that Print
Card machines are cash only.

***Present your Registration Statement or your ECUAD student card
at Opus Framing & Art Supplies to qualify for a student

arrive at class a minimum of 5 minutes prior to the designated
