This course introduces you to the principles of creating accurate drawings from nature. Focusing on form and structure, you will observe natural elements including birds, insects and other fauna. Through close observation, you will learn to translate proportion and depth into two-dimensional representations. Line, tone and value will be explored through work in pen, pencil and ink. Emphasis will be on adherence to detail, literal representation, and measured accuracy towards precise communication through illustration.

Prerequisites: 

CEIL 100 Introductory Illustration, or CEDR 100 Introductory Drawing, is strongly recommended

* 1  Staedtler Mars Plastic Eraser
* 1  Pigma Micron Pen 01 waterproof  
* 1  11x14  Wire bound sketchbook
* 1  Strathmore 300 Mixed Media Pad 
* 1  Small watercolour set or coloured pencils (or bring what
you have)
* 1  Staedtler Gummed Kneading Eraser 
* 1  Speedball Penholder #9451
* 1  Speedball Art & Mapping Nib - 108 Flexible Quil
* 1  Clear 6" ruler and dividers
* Bring your own drawing, watercolour paints and brushes  
* Bring a digital camera if you have one
* Magnifying glass if you have one
* 2 water containers (eg jam jar) if using watercolour
* Entry fee ($6.50) for the Bloedel Conservatory
- Possible visit to Vancouver Aquarium or other Museum
