This course is for students seeking a robust introduction to the manual operation of a 35mm camera and black-and-white darkroom techniques. Topics include: principles of exposure, use of natural light in photographic imagery, film processing, enlargement techniques and the machine processing of prints. You will be encouraged to expand your understanding of the technical and aesthetic possibilities of photography while developing an awareness of your own approach and interests. More importantly, you will have the opportunity to work in the university's photography studios under the guidance of expert instructors.

* 1 35mm film camera with a built in meter - Models recommended: 
Pentax K1000, Minolta 101 or 102, can email instructor for
recommendations / price varies
* 8 36exp 8 to 10 rolls of 400ISO black and white film - Kodak
Tmax or Ilford HP5

**Amount of film varies with each student - 1 roll needed for the
first class

*1 35mm Print File plastic negative storage pages
*1 Scissors - first class
*1 100 8 x 10" - Ilford Multigrade RC GLOSSY photographic paper
optional - 11x14" photographic paper - please do not buy
photographic paper until after the first class.

**BRING CAMERA,1 ROLL OF FILM AND DEVELOPING TANK TO THE FIRST
CLASS

**Be sure that your camera has new batteries in it and that the
meter is working.
