This course is an introduction to the core principles of painting. Using acrylic paint, various colour mixing and applications techniques are introduced as you explore basic composition, line, contrast, colour, texture, and the use of diverse painting tools. Through hands-on exercises, students will practice, experiment with, and express personal style through painting fundamentals.

Essential Items

* 9-10 (60ml)tubes artist quality acrylic paints: titanium white,
mars
or lamp black, burnt umber (or raw umber or vandyke brown), warm
primary colour set (suggestions: azo red middle, primary or hansa
deep yellow, ultramarine blue), cool primary colour set
(suggestions: alizarin, quinacridone or crimson red, hansa light
or lemon yellow, phthalo blue or cyan)  Suggested brands: Golden,
Kroma (10 colour set), or Opus	
* 1 Acrylic Medium - Gloss or Matte (any brand)
* 1 Gesso	
* Various Brushes suitable for acrylic painting  (suggested: Opus
Legato Set/5)
* Palette Knives (suggested: metal + trowel shape)
* Various Painting Surfaces (suggested: canvas panel, stretched
canvas, masonite etc.)	
* 2-3 sheets Stonehenge, Accent Opaque or similar smooth
heavyweight paper (approx 22"x30")	
* 1 Newsprint Pad
* Selection of drawing materials (pencils, pencil crayons, conte,
oil pastels, etc)	
* 1 Drawing paper or Sketchbook
* 1 Palette - either disposable paper palette or flat plastic
palette
* 1 roll masking tape
* 2-3 containers for water
