This course is an introduction to core principles in painting. Various painting techniques are introduced as you explore basic composition, line, contrast, colour, texture, and the use of tools and materials. Formal elements of composition are explored as you experiment with a variety of techniques and approaches. Through hands-on exercises, you will explore techniques and methods artists have used through the ages.

Instructor information: 
Please bring the following supplies to class:
* 1 150 mL titanium white acrylic paint
* 1 variety Fortissimo Brush Set (Opus) plus one natural hair
bristle brush, mid size
* Canvas boards, varying sizes, to be discussed in class
* 1 9" x 12" sketchbook (or similar size)
* 1 12" x 16" disposable paper palette (no plexi glass or
watercolour palettes)
* 1 2" flat wash brush
* 1 1/2" - 1" trowel palette knife
* 1 2B pencil
* 1 Golden Glazing Medium
* 1 plastic eraser
* 1 ea 60mL acrylic paint: ultramarine blue, phthalocerulean
blue, hansa yellow light, azo yellow medium
* 1 ea 60mL acrylic paint: burnt sienna, alizarin crimson, azo
red medium, hookers green
*1 18" x 24" package of cartridge paper 18 x 24"

**Any other brushes and paint colours as you have on hand

* 1 1" roll of masking tape
* 1 water container (old yogurt tub)
* Soft rags (important to bring)
* 1 scissors
* 1 ruler
