This course is an introduction to core principles in painting. Various painting techniques are introduced as you explore basic composition, line, contrast, colour, texture, and the use of tools and materials. Formal elements of composition are explored as you experiment with a variety of techniques and approaches. Through hands-on exercises, you will explore techniques and methods artists have used through the ages.

Instructor information: 
Please bring the following supplies to class:
- 1 larger plastic container for water, painting rags or paper
towels, wax paper for plexiglass palettes
- gesso
- 1 Set Legato Brushes from Opus art supplies (for acrylic)
- house paint brushes 2 inches and 4 inches
- Accent Opaque Cover Paper White Vellum 20 x 26 inches (20
sheets). Opus Art Supplies.   
- 1 60ml Kroma or Golden, Liquitex etc... "Artist quality" zinc
- 1 150ml Titanium white acrylic paint
- 60ml Kroma or Artist Quality acrylic paint (alizarin crimson,
cadmium red dark, hansa yellow lemon)
- 60ml Paint continued (cadmium yellow medium, iron oxide black,
pthalo blue)
- 60ml One of each Paint continued (ultramarine blue, burnt
- 60ml OPTIONAL paint colours: yellow ochre, burnt umber
- 16oz Golden satin acrylic glazing medium 
- 3 canvases 16 x 20 inches minimum.  do not need to bring to
first class.
