CEPN 105 SU01: Mixed Media Painting

Using a range of materials on a variety of surfaces, students will learn how to create layered mixed media pieces. Students will explore expression and composition as they combine traditional and unconventional materials with drawing and brushwork. Materials may include gesso, plaster, paint, ink, charcoal and various papers.

Instructor information: 
Please bring the following supplies to class:
* 1 9 x 12 sketchbook
* 1 60 ml Acrylic Paint (Opus, Golden or Kroma brand) in the
following colours: titanium white, middle hansa yellow, middle
azo red, alizarin crimson, ultramarine blue, phthalo blue, burnt
umber, raw umber. Optional: lemon yellow, greens, earth tones 
* 1 473ml acrylic medium  matte
* 1 250ml Liquitex basics gloss heavy gel 
* 2 varied trowel shaped palette knife (around the length of
small finger)
* 1 pencil 2b
* 2 charcoal - 1 hard and 1 willow 
* 1 470ml gesso - opus brand
* 1 1" masking tape
* 4 flat canvas panels to start, minimum 12"x16" or larger
* 1 Palette Paper Canson (No Hole) 12" x 16" or equivelant
* 3-6 flat and filbert brushes ranging in size, around 1" width
and larger (or Legato set from Opus)
* 1 house paint brush 3"-5" thin as possible

**other materials:  rags (lots), scissors, small sealing
containters to keep paint in, 

**different brushes, tools, collected collage material, found
papers, etc.
