Students will become familiar with the basic structural anatomy of the face and head and how it relates to proportion and perspective. The technical aspects of portraiture painting practices will be explored alongside contemporary, conceptual, and experimental opportunities.

Essential Items

* One set (9-10 tubes) of Artist quality paints in your preferred
medium of experience (acrylic, oil*, watercolour, gouache) - set
should include warm and cool primaries as well as black, white,
and an earth tone such as burnt umber. 	
 *Note: Water-based oil paints preferred for home-studio use;
traditional oil paints may be used with safe practices applied	
* Brush set suitable for your preferred medium (Opus brand sets
preferred), assorted
* 1 Sketchbook (one you have already started is fine)
* Various Selection of drawing materials as you have on hand
(pencils, pencil crayons, conte, oil pastels, etc)
* 1 Masking tape
* 2-3 Containers for water
* 1 White Eraser

* 1 Gesso
* 1 Palette Knife (suggested: metal trowel shape)
* Various Painting Surfaces (suggested: canvas panel, stretched
canvas, masonite etc.)
* 1 Bristol Pad Canson 9inx12in 25 sheets
* 3 sheets Stonehenge, Accent Opaque or similar smooth
heavyweight paper (approx 22"x30") 
* 1 Palette - either disposable paper palette or flat plastic
palette
* Various Mediums and extenders as suitable for acrylic/oil, will
be discused in class
