CEPN 223 SU01: Intermediate Oil Painting

Continue your exploration of oil painting in this intermediate course. Further develop your skills and techniques in this challenging medium as you investigate colour, composition, use of scale, subject matter and technical processes. Time will be split between hands-on exercises and self-directed studio work. Students will also examine contemporary and historical oil painting and how it can inform their work.

Instructor information: 
Please bring the following supplies to class:
Essential Items

* Artist quality water-based* oil paints, 40mL: titanium white,
phthalo blue, ultramarine blue, azo red middle OR cadmium red
middle, quinacridone red OR alizarin red crimson, azo yellow
light OR cadmium yellow light, azo yello middle OR cadmium yellow
middle, burnt sienna, raw umber, 9 tubes total
Note: Water-based Oil Paints are recommended for home use for
this online class. Traditional oil paints (in the same colour
range) can be used; if you already have these on hand you do not
need to buy the water-based. Safe material handling for home use
of traditional oil paints will be discussed. There may be other
supply needs for traditional oil paints as well.	
* 1 Gesso
* 1 Walnut Alkyd Medium, 8oz
* set/5 Brushes suitable for oil painting  (suggested: Opus
Fortissimo or Legato Set/5)	
* 1 Palette Knife (suggested: metal trowel shape) 	1
* 3 Painting Surfaces (suggested: canvas panel, stretched canvas,
masonite etc.) Sized 9"x12"
* Selection of drawing materials as on hand (pencils, pencil
crayons, conte, pastels)
* 1 Bristol Paper Pad, 9"x12", 25 sheets (or cardstock
equivalant)	1
* 1 Palette or palette paper pad
* 1 roll Masking tape
* 2-3 Containers for water
* Multiple assorted cloth rags or shop towels or paper towels
