CESE 102: Contemporary Critical Theory

This course introduces you to a range of issues affecting contemporary art from the mid-20th century to today. You will examine a variety of current themes and issues ranging from the changing role of the artist; the problem of originality; postmodernism and beyond; the problem of 'beauty'; nature as subject; pastoral tradition and nostalgia; ecological art; new feminism; radical art; cyber-culture and the post-human; and the new sublime. This course includes written exercises, such as an exhibition or artist review.
