This course explores Indigenous art and curatorial practice, and emphasizes the ways of being of Indigenous artists, curators and Knowledge Keepers. Students will examine curatorial strategies from mid-20th century to the present, within the context of broader sociopolitical movements. Topics include: reception history of Indigenous art; shifts in curatorial approaches to collection and display of Indigenous art; and the politics of representation. In this course, Indigenous knowledges will be centred to draw connections between art, history, culture and community.
