Introduces issues relevant to painting today and develops painting skills. Students acquire a basic knowledge of the formal and technical aspects of historical and contemporary painting practices. Assigned projects will acquaint students with an exploration of both traditional and non-traditional painting materials, as well as experimentation with processes of collage, abstraction and an introduction to conceptual painting. Classes combine discussions, reading, demonstrations, individual and group critiques. Painting 200 and 210 can be taken in any order, and students require both to take PNTG 310: Painting: Advanced Advanced Painting.
