How to apply for research ethics approval at Emily Carr University

The Emily Carr University Research Ethics Board receives applications for review from faculty members, staff, students, and external researchers who are conducting research that involves humans within the Emily Carr University context.

  • If you are an Emily Carr University researcher (this includes faculty members and masters students), please use Application for Human Research Ethics that is available here - ROMEO - Researcher Portal Sign in using your ECUAD email and the password you have created.
  • If you are a faculty member seeking ethics approval for course-based research, you will find information about the process here - http://www.connect.ecuad.ca/research/reb/course_based
  • If you are a researcher external to Emily Carr University, please go to the ROMEO Researcher Portal and register. Once you have completed the process you can email research@ecuad.ca confirming your registration to expedite the process of validation of your profile. After you log in, click on 'Apply New'. The select the "Multi-Jurisdictional Application for Human Research Ethics", complete and submit it.

Risk & Review Tool

To help researchers determine the level of ethics review that is required for their project based on the level of risk it presents to participants, this tool is available to do a self-assessment on the approximate level of risk and the anticipated level of review required.

More Ethics Application Info -

All applicants and researchers are required to complete the TCPS2:CORE (Course on Research Ethics) before an application is approved. Certificates of completion must be included in the application.
