How can I check-out equipment?

  • You can check out equipment in-person by coming to Media Resources with your Emily Carr I.D. card. If you'd like to ensure that something is availabe ahead of time, you can make a reservation.

How can I reserve equipment?

  • Equipment reservations can be made in person, by email at, or by the online Equipment Request Form.
  • Equipment cannot be booked over the phone.
  • Equipment reservations are subject to equipment availability.
  • Equipment reservations must be requested at least 2 days in advance, and we recommened making a request a week in advance for large reservations.

How can I renew an equipment booking?

  • You can renew equipment bookings by phone (604-844-3829) or in-person, but you must contact Media Resources at least an hour before your equipment is due back. Equipment renewals depend on availability, and are not guaranteed. Always be prepared to return your equipment.  
  • Equipment bookings cannot be renewed by email.

How do I confirm my equipment reservation?

  • An equipment booking confirmation email will be sent to your Emily Carr email address to confirm your reservation.
  • If you do not receive an equipment reservation confirmation email, contact Media Resources in-person, by telephone 604-844-3829 or by email at

Can I take out equipment longer than the regular-loan periods?
It is possible to reserve equipment for extended loan periods if approved. Contact Regan Paynter, the Media Resources Coordinator, at at least 2 days before your requested reservation time for extended loan period approvals.

If I forget my Emily Carr ID card, will I be able take out equipment without it?

  • No, you must have your Emily Carr ID card to borrow equipment. It is prohibited to use someone else’s ID card.

Can I send someone else to pick up my booked equipment?

  • No, the borrower who requested the booked equipment must be present at the time the equipment is picked up. The Borrower is solely responsible for the equipment on loan, and equipment must stay in their posession for the duration of the loan. 

What happens if I forget to bring back a part of an equipment package by the due date?

  • The Borrower is responsible for returning the entire equipment package. Equipment with missing parts will be considered 'not returned' and will be subject to late fees until all parts have been returned. 

 I am a Continuing Studies Student, may I take out equipment?

  • No, only students enrolled in credit classes in a degree program have access to the equipment in Media Resources.

What are the loan periods for equipment?

  • Loan periods vary. Some equipment is day-loan meaning it must be returned the same day, before the building closes.
  • Other equipment is available for regular loan periods which is typically two days (ex. Monday-Wed), or for the weekend (Thurs/Fri-Mon). Regular loan period equipment is due back before 12:00pm noon on the day it's due back.
  • If you are ever unsure when something is due back, just ask a technician when taking something out. Borrowers are responsible for knowing the return time of their equipment.
